The Missouri Behavioral Health Council (Council) represents over 30 behavioral health safety net agencies statewide. The CIT Training Specialist is a newly created position that will take direction from the Missouri CIT State Coordinator and serves as a first responder training expert focused on the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model working with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Program (POST) Continuing Law Enforcement Education (CLEE) assisting with local CIT councils statewide.  This position will provide oversight and assist with the development and revising of curriculum and training for the following CIT courses:  40-hour Basic CIT, 8-hour Concepts, Dispatch/Telcom, EMS/Fire, Jail CIT, Military, Veterans, Youth CIT, De-Escalation, and Role-Play techniques.  The position will be based at MBHC’s office in Jefferson City, MO, and will require frequent travel. 

General job duties include setting meetings, preparing materials/presentations, conducting webinars, attending or conducting in-person training, meetings, and conferences, following up on action items resulting from meetings, and assisting with conferences when requested. As part of the Council team, the selected individual is also expected to assist other team members in their roles when needed and assist with Council-wide responsibilities such as assembling manuals, cleaning after training, preparing for meetings, and making the building and offices look sharp and well maintained.

Job Specific Highlights include:

  • Expand CIT Training
    • Develop review, and/or revise the following MO CIT Standardized training curriculum for councils to use statewide for consistency and branding.
    • Develop CIT Recertification/Advance CIT Training Curriculum.
    • Implement Regional Jail CIT Training.
    • Assist with training for the online CIT Reporting System.
  • Develop MO CIT Train-the-Trainer (TTT) Curriculum and CIT Seminars
    • Develop a MO CIT TTT Curriculum to be shared during CIT Leadership Forums.
    • Assist with one-day CIT seminars.
  • Submit the application for Missouri to be a Council for State Governments (CSG) Law Enforcement-Mental Health Learning Site
    • Submit application to CSG on behalf of MO CIT.
    • Assist Statewide CIT Coordinator in implementation, if selected.
  • Assist local stakeholders participating in the Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Mapping sessions who have identified CIT training/expansion as a needed resource.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The position will require overnight travel to attend training and recruiting events.

Job Requirements:

  • CIT-trained and active commissioned or retired law enforcement officer.
  • CIT instructor and experience with trainings.
  • Experience with Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) and is familiar with Continuing Law Enforcement Education (CLEE) training and reporting requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for email and calendar.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (with customer service level attention).
  • Ability to speak and present to large groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to quickly change tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a positive and professional manner.
  • Represent the Council and MO CIT in a positive and professional manner internally and externally.
